Schools in Tajikistan take action to increase road safety for children

Five schools in Dushanbe participated in a campaign on 12 December 2012 to help prevent injuries and deaths of children on the capital city’s roads.

The organization Young Generation of Tajikistan supported by the state agency State Women Centre Dushanbe, under the auspices of the City Hall of Dushanbe, conducted a multimedia quiz among 310 pupils to increase their knowledge of safety rules on the road. The event was held in the framework of the global initiative "Safe and Friendly Cities for All" established to make cities safer for women and children and supported by the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF), UN Women and UN Habitat.

Flyers containing information on traffic rules and 60 bracelets with the campaign’s slogan were distributed to the participants, 85 of whom also received prizes for their correct answers on the quiz. At the end of the action in each school, the pupils were invited to write their wishes for Dushanbe city on a large banner.
