WHO helps educate young health professionals in Tajikistan in HIV/AIDS treatment
The gift of 600 copies of a training module to a university library in Tajikistan is set to help educate young health professionals in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care. The WHO Country Office in Tajikistan officially handed over the books at a ceremony at Tajik State Medical University (TSMU) on 29 April 2013, attended by the University Rector, Head of WHO Country office in Tajikistan, WHO Country Programme Coordinator on HIV/AIDS and TB and representatives from TSMU.
The training module, developed with technical assistance from WHO/Europe, is designed to strengthen the university curriculum in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care at under-graduate and post-graduate level. Alongside the training module, assistance has been provided to:
- revise the national training programs on HIV/AIDS;
- develop unique training curricula on HIV/AIDS;
- build capacity among tutors;
- organize a study tour to St. Petersburg Medical Universities, and
- set up training equipment.
A strong commitment to the future
There was consensus among participants at the event regarding the importance of strengthening national capacity in medical education. A strong commitment to continue fruitful collaboration in the future was expressed.
