On 27 and 28 January 2016, 10 members of the Early Warning Alert and Response Network (EWARN) central-level team gathered in Gaziantep, Turkey for a capacity-building workshop. WHO and EWARN partners organized the workshop, with contributions from the United Kingdom Department of International Development. It aimed at supporting the critical functions of the team, who carry out public health surveillance and epidemiological monitoring in the northern part of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The training topics included:
- public health surveillance in emergencies
- outbreak investigation and response
- surveillance information systems and data analysis
- interpretation and outbreak reporting.
Capacity-building and strengthening activities support members of the EWARN in monitoring, investigating, responding and reporting future epidemic and other public health events of international concern.
