Help for Syrian refugees: comprehensive plan updated

WHO

Turkey hosts the world’s largest number of refugees. More than 2.8 million people fleeing from Syria have access to education, the employment market and health care in Turkey. A refugee crisis of such proportions, complexity and duration calls for a response of an unprecedented scale and nature.

WHO stands with the Turkish Ministry of Health, along with health partner agencies in Turkey, to face the challenges brought with these demographic changes. Responding to the crisis requires the joint efforts of many United Nations agencies and Turkish institutions. Working with the Turkish Ministry of Health, WHO plays an integral role in improving the health of Syrian refugees in Turkey.

The Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP), now entering its third year, details the humanitarian response of many agencies in several countries, including Turkey. The response focuses on alleviating the suffering of the most vulnerable Syrian refugees, addressing basic needs and preventing large numbers of refugees from falling deeper into poverty. Longer-term interventions bolster the resilience of refugee and host communities, while also building the capacity of national systems. The 3RP has mobilized the combined knowledge, efforts and resources of national governments, more than 150 partner agencies and an increasing number of donors.

The 3RP Regional Strategic Overview provides a summary of the regional response to the Syrian crisis by sector.
