Strengthening health systems
WHO/Europe collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders in Member States to analyse current health systems and help design and implement reforms that will strengthen the delivery and stewardship of their health services. This assistance is needed now more than ever as countries face multiple health-related challenges, including the global economic crisis, mounting public expectations, rising costs and the emergence of previously unknown diseases.
The lessons learned from European experience will make a valuable contribution to strategies to strengthen health systems globally. Well-functioning health systems are deemed essential in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
