WHO

On 8-12 April in Bishkek a group  of health care professionals from ten pilot hospitals  participated in the training in the framework of the WHO project “Improving the quality of paediatric care in the first-level referral hospitals in selected countries of central Asia and Africa".  Participants were trained to use  the updated national edition of the WHO Pocketbook "Hospital care for children" (2012) and  to provide effective supportive supervision to its implementation in clinical practice. Printed copies of the  Pocket guidelines, incorporating technical updates of 2012,  were distributed to all participants.

The training was conducted by a team of trainers consisting of two WHO consultants, two experts from the Russian Federation and the two national trainers. Participants were  trained in two parallel groups to ensure the optimal  learning conditions.

The aim of the project is to improve the quality of services provided to children in the hospitals and to reduce child mortality by implementing evidence-based practices for prevention and management of the most common illnesses in resource-limited settings. The project is financed by the Russian Federation.

Despite the fact that effective management of the most common child illnesses have been widely implemented in primary health care, the training of health workers  to improve quality of hospital care for children  is a relatively new activity.
