Globally the commitment to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and congenital syphilis has been strengthening.

To continue progress and endorse the validation framework for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission (EMTCT) of HIV and syphilis in Europe and Central Asia, the WHO in partnership with UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF, and key partners convened a technical consultation on EMTCT of HIV and syphilis in December 2015.

The meeting took place in Astana, Kazakhstan on December 17 and 18, 2015 and aimed to review progress towards elimination validation, share experiences within the Region and obtain feedback on the validation tools from Member States.

The presentations, discussions and key recommendations and conclusions from the consultation are presented in this report.
