Over 49 000 cases of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 in Europe

As of 7 September 2009, 48 of the 53 Member States in the WHO European Region had reported over 49 000 laboratory-confirmed cases of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection. At present, influenza activity in the WHO European Region is low or moderate. The number of infections detected each week continues to decrease.

To date, there have been at least 126 deaths in 12 countries in the Region: Belgium, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

On the Regional Committee’s agenda

A technical briefing, debate and exchange of national experience with pandemic (H1N1) 2009 will take place on 14 and 15 September 2009 at the fifty-ninth session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe.
