The scope and purpose of the meeting were to review immunization challenges in German-speaking countries with special emphasis on the use of measles vaccine; to share experiences, review surveillance methods and discuss ways to improve the monitoring of vaccination coverage; to share experiences and discuss ways to more effectively address concerns of parents and health professionals about the safety and value of vaccination; and to share experiences about implementing national strategies for measles and rubella elimination and the usefulness of Eliminating measles and rubella and preventing congenital rubella infection, WHO European Region strategic plan 2005-2010.
