Romania
In Romania a coalition of organizations works together each year to celebrate World TB Day, and this working group was joined this year by the United States Embassy. The following activities have been planned:
- The working group will meet with county coordinators one week before World TB Day to provide them with brochures and posters, and update them on the TB situation in Romania and in the world. This will help prepare them for the local activities each will organize in their own county.
- Contests were launched on 16 February focusing on several issues related to TB. The WHO Country Office in Romania will participate as a member of the jury responsible for judging the submitted materials: drawings by children who have or have had TB, facebook activities by students, and filmed testimonials by former TB patients in collaboration with cameramen. The awards will be announced at an event on 23 March at Marius Nasta Institute, which will also include a press conference and short theatre sketch on TB performed by Roma children from Calarasi county.
- Key speakers, including a WHO representative will participate in television and radio talk shows.
- TB awareness materials will be distributed.
- On 26 March, the Medical Students Association and Romanian Red Cross volunteers will organize a flash mob for TB in the centre of Bucharest.
