Dr Jay Achar

Dr Jay Achar graduated from University College London before training as an infectious diseases specialist in Australia. He received his fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2011. Since joining Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 2013, Dr Achar has gained considerable practical and programmatic experience in the diagnosis and management of (TB) and drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) in eastern Europe and central Asia. He provides technical, strategic and research support to MSF missions tackling TB, HIV and viral hepatitis in the WHO European and African Regions. His key interests include the provision of DR-TB treatment to children, the role of new and repurposed drugs in the management of extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB), implementation of the short regimen for multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) and the role of data in improving health-care quality.
