Workshop on anti-TB drug resistance surveillance: 30 November - 1 December, Copenhagen
The workshop, "Anti-TB Drug Resistance Surveillance and Recording and Reporting of Anti-TB Drug–resistant Patients" has an overall objective to strengthen the surveillance of anti-TB drug-resistant tuberculosis and their treatment outcome monitoring.
It is taking place 30 November - 1 December 2011, in Copenhagen, Denmark, with participants from several Member States.
Expected outcomes of the workshop are that participants are able to:
- understand WHO recommendations on drug resistance surveillance;
- interpret the available data and gain an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their coutnry surveillance systems;
- appreciate the role of registration and recording in the context of monitoring programme performance and treatment outcomes for DR-TB;
- identify key indicators related to MDR-TB case detection, enrollment and outcome;
- know how to collect and validate minimum variables for MDR-TB reporting;
- understand how to compile the standard reports for MDR-TB reporting;
- understand how to calculate and analyse indicators;
- develop an implementation plan, in line with the Regional M/XDR-TB Action Plan 2011-2015, on how to reinforce recording and reporting in their setting based on the most suitable methods (paper, electronic or combination) available to them, and to specify when the next available drug resistant survey (if applicable) is due, and when the countries are capable of reporting data from continuous surveillance of Class A quality (in conjunction with their diagnostic testing).
