Progress reports on health and sustainable development now available for Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan
WHO has launched 3 new sustainable development country progress reports for Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as part of the Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All.
All United Nations Member States committed to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While SDG 3 is specifically focused on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, other goals also include health-related targets, for example preventing malnutrition, or achieving universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking-water for all.
These reports assess the current status of health and well-being in the 3 countries and provide policy recommendations to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. They take into account the three dimensions of sustainable development (social, economic and environmental) through multisectoral engagement in their development. They highlight the significant achievements made towards implementation of the health-related SDGs, as well as the challenges and bottlenecks that will need to be addressed and the need for sustained government commitment.
While these reports were compiled and written before the COVID-19 pandemic, they provide essential guidance for building back better in a sustainable manner.
Financial assistance was provided by the Federal Ministry of Health, Germany, in support of the implementation of the Global Action Plan on Healthy Lives and Well-being for All.
