Quality and timely data on the mechanism and nature of road traffic deaths and injuries are crucial to understanding the problem, designing and implementing effective, evidence-based interventions, and monitoring the implementation and impact of those interventions.

Member States have different mechanisms for the collection, collation, dissemination and utilization of official statistics for road safety. The table below is a consolidation of the most up-to-date data on road traffic fatalities by user type. These data are presented as they were reported in their original sources, and no standardization for the definition of missed cases has been conducted.

Reflecting the intersectoral nature of road safety in Member States, these data were reported from ministries of internal affairs, ministries of interior or national police agencies.
