The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia: Skopje values current levels of cycling

Skopje is the capital city of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia with a population of 536 000. In 2011, researchers from the Institute of Public Health conducted a HEAT assessment of current levels of cycling in the city among regular cyclists.

Using data from a local survey, they found a mean annual benefit of €45 000 among the small number of regular cyclists who made an average of three trips per day. The researchers concluded that this was a valuable initial indicator which represented strong encouragement for further research.
