English

The health effects of urban transport have received increasing attention in the last years. This report provides a framework for integrated assessment of health impacts from urban transport.

The discussion is based on the results of HEARTS, a research project within the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Union. HEARTS provides a methodology to estimate the health effects of air pollution, noise and road accidents, and an instrument to integrate the assessment of health impacts from urban policies on transport and land use in the decision-making. HEARTS was carried out by an international consortium of leading European research institutions coordinated by WHO/Europe.
