World Health Day 2011 - Events

WHO/Europe is organizing and contributing to a series of events across the Region to raise awareness about the different aspects of antibiotic resistance.

Copenhagen, Denmark, 7 April 2011

Focusing on hospital hygiene and infection control, this event will bring together doctors, nurses, representatives from Statens Serum Institut, Denmark, as well as WHO staff. It is being organized in collaboration with the Danish Nursing Society, and Statens Serum Institut, and with the participation of the European Forum of Medical Associations.

Rome, Italy, 7 April 2011

WHO/Europe is organizing a seminar on antibiotic resistance from a food-ensafety perspective, and launching a booklet titled “Tackling antibiotic resistance in a food safety perspective in Europe”. The meeting will take place on the premises of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and participating organizations are likely to include: FAO, Codex Alimentarius, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Commission and Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), Italy.

Strasbourg, France, 7 April 2011

A roundtable on the health implications of antibiotic resistance, and the intersectoral policy action needed to address the issue will take place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

London, United Kingdom, 5 April 2011

A background briefing for journalists on the current situation with antibiotic resistance will be held in London. It will include key scientists in the field from both WHO and the United Kingdom. The briefing will be held at the Science Media Centre, 21 Albemarle Street, London, at 10:30 on Tuesday, 5 April.
