United Nations Millennium Development Goals

The eight MDGs, to be achieved by 2015, respond to the world’s main development challenges. They were drawn from the actions and targets contained in the Millennium Declaration adopted by 189 nations and signed by 147 heads of state and governments in September 2000. Blood safety contributes to MDGs 4–6 and 8, which call for reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases and building global partnership for development.
