Fact 3: How many?

Approximately 1 in 10 people in the WHO European Region is a migrant (including refugees). The number of migrants in the Region is often overestimated to be 3 to 4 times greater than it actually is.

Approximately 96 million migrants were living in the 53 Member States of the European Region as of 2019. That is about 10% of the population. The Region embraces nearly 920 million people living in an area stretching from the Arctic Ocean in the north to the Mediterranean Sea in the south and from the Atlantic

Ocean in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east. Refugees in the Region account for 7% of the total number of refugees and migrants.
