Migrant health: Italy signs agreement

WHO

Ferruccio Fazio, Minister of Health for Italy, and Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Director for Europe

At the World Health Assembly on 16 May, Professor Ferruccio Fazio, Minister of Health of Italy, signed an agreement with Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, on a three year-project on the public health aspects of migration.

The project was prompted by recent events in North Africa, but builds on WHO/Europe’s years of experience in working with migrants and displaced people at times of conflict and humanitarian need. This project will enable expertise, evidence and good practice to be fully available when required by the Member States in the European Region. It will have an operational base in Rome at the Italian National Institute for Health, Migration and Poverty, for the implementation of activities.
