Tajikistan celebrates World Health Day

Several activities were organized in Tajikistan this year to celebrate World Health Day (WHD) on 7 April 2014.

The national radio of Tajikistan, Sadoi Dushanbe (“Voice of Dushanbe”) broadcast a nationwide public awareness campaign, which included talk programmes, a public survey and an interview on the global and national situation of vector-borne diseases with representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection (in Tajik and Russian). It was organized by the WHO Country Office in Tajikistan together with the Republican Center to Fight Tropical Diseases (malaria), Tajik State Medical University (Abuali Ibn Sino) and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection (MoHSP).

WHO and MoHSP conducted a joint meeting devoted to World Health Day with health workers of the National Diagnostic Center and Dushanbe city policlinics. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister Dr Jaffarov, Director of the Republican Center Mr Karimov, and Director of Republican center for healthy life style, Dr Azimov. The speakers highlighted the results achieved by malaria elimination and leishmaniases control programmes and encouraged renewed community efforts to achieve national elimination goals.

A related exhibition illustrated successes in malaria control in Tajikistan. During the exhibition booklets, banners and other information materials were distributed among guests.

Administration and volunteers of Tajik State Medical University also organized a community awareness campaign devoted WHD in Khatlon region.
