Many events were organized in Croatia in April 2014 to raise awareness about vector-borne diseases, the theme of this year’s World Health Day. 

The Ministry of Health and the WHO Country Office in Montenegro organized a joint press conference on 7 April, highlighting the importance of preventive measures in combating vectors and vector-borne diseases and their increasing prevalence.

National and local authorities, along with various non-governmental organizations, organized several events in the Republic of Moldova to celebrate World Health Day 2014 and raise awareness on health-related topics, with a special focus on this year’s theme of vector-borne diseases.

Public awareness of vector-borne diseases was raised in the Russian Federation through media coverage of World Health Day 2014.

National experts presented information on the global and national burden of vector-borne diseases, blood safety and the protection of travellers at an event organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, the National Institute for Public Health and the WHO Country Office in Slovenia.

Several activities were organized in Tajikistan this year to celebrate World Health Day on 7 April 2014, including a radio broadcast, meeting with health workers, an exhibition and a community awareness campaign.

World Health Day 2014 was celebrated through a series of events in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia organized by the WHO Country Office in cooperation with relevant institutions, particularly the Ministry of Health, Institute for Occupational Health, WHO Collaborative Centre and the Macedonian Doctor’s Association.

On 4 April 2014, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan hosted a stage performance and contest by medical personnel, with a focus on vector-borne diseases, including leishmaniasis, polio, helminthiasis and malaria.
