On 4 April 2014, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan hosted a stage performance and contest by medical personnel, with a focus on vector-borne diseases, including leishmaniasis, polio, helminthiasis and malaria.

Four teams comprised of medical personnel of various medical establishments of Ahal Velayat presented dances, poems, music performances and drama sketches to raise awareness of vector-borne diseases, the theme for this year’s World Health Day.

The activity was conducted in Yzgant village’s newly built Cultural Centre and was attended by lead medical professionals, students of Turkmen State Medical University and local schoolchildren, as well as by representatives of international organizations (United Nations Children’s Fund, United States Agency for International Development and WHO).
