World Health Day draws media attention to vector-borne diseases in the Russian Federation

Public awareness of vector-borne diseases was raised in the Russian Federation through media coverage of World Health Day 2014.

Among other publications, the Russia newspaper “ Медицинская газета”  (Medical newspaper) featured an article on 4 April 2014 directed toward medical professionals, which celebrated the role of WHO in health protection and promotion around the world, and focused specifically on the need to raise awareness about vector-borne diseases.

The United Nations Radio also posted an interview (in Russian) with Dr Vladimir Sergiev, head of the tropical diseases department in First Moscow medical university, who explained how vector-borne diseases are spread and how people can reduce the risk of contracting them.
