Facts on disability
- Over 1 billion people are estimated to live with some form of disability. This corresponds to about 15% of the world's population.
- Between 110 million (2.2% of the world’s population) and 190 million (3.8%) people 15 years and older have significant difficulties in functioning.
- In Member States of the WHO European Region, 6 to 10 out of every 100 people live with a disability.
- In total, an estimated 135 million people in Europe live with a disability. With population ageing and the rising prevalence of chronic conditions due to noncommunicable diseases and injuries, this number is set to increase in the future.
