Surveillance of foodborne diseases

WHO/Europe organizes training courses to strengthen European countries’ capacities for the surveillance and control of major foodborne diseases.

Courses are organized mainly through the WHO Global Foodborne Infections Network (GFN), a capacity-building programme created by WHO and other partners that promotes integrated, laboratory-based surveillance, detection and prevention of foodborne disease, and fosters intersectoral collaboration among human health, veterinary and food-related disciplines in the area of foodborne disease. GFN was formerly known as Global Salmonella Surveillance Network (GSS).

Global Foodborne Infections Network (GFN)

Previously called Global Salm-Surv (GSS) network. A network of institutions and individuals committed to enhancing the capacity of countries to detect, respond and prevent foodborne and other enteric infections. Work is done to promote integrated, laboratory-based surveillance and foster intersectoral collaboration among human health, veterinary and food-related disciplines through training courses and activities around the world
